Mosaic Peace Camp in San Jose
For: Campers in grades 1-5
And for: Counselors-in-training (C.I.T.s) in grades 6-12

Monday, June 12 through Friday, June 16, 2017, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with aftercare available.

The camp’s goal is to have fun, build community, and develop skills to be peacemakers in our lives and in our world. Join campers from around the South Bay for a week of fun!

Camp activities:

Morning activities will draw from the MOSAIC Project,, “Peacing It Together” curriculum, and will include activities to build empathy, resilience, and community, and to empower children to create a peaceful future.

The MOSAIC Project’s evidence-based, social-emotional learn­ing (SEL) cur­ricu­lum focuses on four themes:

— Cel­e­bra­tion of diver­sity and aware­ness of stereo­typ­ing, prej­u dice, and dis­crim­i­na­tion
— Respect for and appre­ci­a­tion of self and oth­ers
— Teamwork and coop­er­a­tion
— Assertive com­mu­ni­ca­tion and con­flict res­o­lu­tion (includ­ing lis­ten­ing skills, express­ing feel­ings pro­duc­tively, and empa­thy)

Other fun activities will fill the week. In the afternoon, there will be a variety of activities including non-competitive games, drama games, and choice activities. On Wednesday and Thursday, there will be fun field trips to Guadalupe River Conservancy , the Children’s Discovery Museum. And the camp finishes up with a pool party on Friday.

There will also be on Thursday Evening a Family Barn Dance Potluck with a dance caller and live music from 6-8 pm at the First Unitarian Church of San Jose.

Snacks and beverages will be provided during camp. Children are asked to bring a bag lunch.
